ABOUT

Slow Croatia – A Blog Dedicated to Slow Tourism and Inland Croatia

This blog was created out of a lifelong love for Ozalj, the Kupa River, and all the activities this beautiful region offers. That love did not come overnight – it grew from childhood memories of summers and holidays spent on the riverbanks, in the meadows, and with family.

As I grew older, I began to appreciate the stunning nature, the rich cultural heritage, and the taste of local food bought directly from small farmers. Today, as an adult with my own family, I feel grateful that my children can experience the same joy: long summer days by the river, walks through the fields, and moments that feel as if time has slowed down – days that belong to each other, to ourselves, and to nature.

My name is Vanja, and I started Slow Croatia to share these experiences with others who believe that travel is not only about seeing places, but about truly living them.

Maybe you don’t even know it yet, but you might already love slow tourism. It’s not a travel trend – it’s a lifestyle. Slow tourism means taking time for yourself, connecting with places, and enjoying every moment without rushing.

On holiday, it’s about leaving behind work, school, and everyday worries. Croatia is often seen as a country of beaches and islands, but there is another side. Inland Croatia offers rivers, forests, small towns, and authentic experiences that show you a different rhythm of life.

This blog is for everyone who loves nature, rivers, hiking, cycling, good food, and authentic travel. Here you’ll discover where to swim in clean rivers, how to explore hiking and cycling paths, taste local food and wine, visit museums and villages, and find hidden spots that make holidays unforgettable.

Our home base is Ozalj, a small town in inland Croatia with a medieval castle, the Kupa River, and rolling green hills. From here, unforgettable memories are only a short walk or drive away.

Because on a slow tourism holiday, there’s no rush. You might meet a local farmer, share a glass of wine, join a boat ride on the Kupa River, or enjoy fresh eggs from a neighbor while staying in a holiday home. It’s about making connections and creating memories that last long after the trip ends.
